Although they were born after the September 11, 2001, attacks, Holy Name students began this school year by immersing themselves in the history and spirit of that day. Over the summer, Holy Name students, faculty, and staff shared The Red Bandanna as their book in common. The Red Bandanna tells the story of Welles Crowther, a 24-year-old man who sacrificed his own life to save others from the South Tower on September 11.
Inspired by their encounter with Crowther’s sacrifice and with the service and sacrifices of family, friends, and community members closer to home, the HN community raised close to $700 to purchase breakfast and lunch for the Parma Heights Fire and Police Departments. The remaining money will go to a 9/11 Memorial Fund.
On Friday, September 10, Student Government Senior Vice President Louis Hulec, Junior Vice President Avery Krause, Junior Secretary Cate Kessler, and Junior Treasurer John Ontko delivered breakfast, and Senior President Mikey Sullivan, Senior Secretary Nicole Jordan, Junior President Paige Hojdar, and Hulec delivered lunch to the Parma Heights Police and Fire Departments.
We thank these police officers, firefighters, and EMTs and all first responders for their service today and every day, and we continue to honor the lives lost on September 11 through our prayers, service, and sacrifice.
