Congratulations to senior Mollie Stracensky who, in addition to being named a National Merit Finalist, has received and accepted an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy.
Mollie has dreamed of attending the Naval Academy since her freshman year. She was drawn to its rich history, stellar engineering programs, and the opportunity to serve her country after graduation.
Immediately after college, Mollie plans to become an officer in the Navy, and she aspires to attend flight school and become a naval aviator. Later, she hopes to work as an engineer in some capacity.
Her favorite class at HN was Honors Anatomy and Physiology, which she took during her junior year. She recalls, “It was fascinating to learn about all the different aspects of the human body, and Mrs. McCafferty always presented the material in an engaging and effective way.”
Anticipating her studies towards a degree in engineering, Mollie also loved many of the math and science classes she took here, especially AP Calculus, which she describes as “challenging yet interesting and fun.”
Mollie encourages underclassmen to appreciate their time at HN. She says, “It sounds cliché, but high school goes by in the blink of an eye, and before you know it it's over. Cherish every moment and memory, and don't be afraid to take risks or go outside of your comfort zone. Life is too short to second guess yourself or be afraid of trying something new; if you want to do something, just do it.”
Congratulations to Mollie, and stay tuned for more senior profiles.
