Congratulations to senior Kiersten Hopko who will be attending the Conservatory of Music at Baldwin Wallace University with a double major in Music Education and Music Therapy. Kiersten also received BW’s President’s Scholarship.
Kiersten chose BW for its excellence in music and education. She says she knew that if she was accepted into the Conservatory, “it would be the best program for me.” She also feels at home on the BW campus, which she describes as beautiful, and she appreciates the welcoming and positive people she has met there so far.
After college, she hopes to become either a music teacher or a music therapist. If she chooses the education path, she says, “I would like to incorporate my therapy background into my teaching and use it to help special needs children love and appreciate music to the fullest.”
Kiersten identifies all of her music classes—as well as Honors Anatomy and Physiology—as her favorite classes at HN. She says, “I loved getting to learn about the human body and how it works, even though it is not the subject I intend to pursue in college.” Her music classes, of course, played a huge role in helping her decide her future path, and she is grateful for her teachers’ encouragement.
Kiersten encourages underclassmen to “stop caring so much about what everybody else thinks of you and just be yourself. High school will be over before you know it, and you will want to look back knowing you had genuine fun and made genuine friends for the amazing person you truly are.”
Congratulations to Kiersten, and stay tuned for more senior profiles!
