What is your role at Holy Name? Library Media Specialist
Why Holy Name? I enjoyed my experience in a Catholic High School & always thought I would be happy to get a job in one too. I wanted to find a place where I could be myself, not be afraid to share my faith & join a great school community.
What is your favorite thing about Holy Name thus far? I enjoy how much prayer is involved here at Holy Name everyday. I am excited to have joined a staff prayer group & even penned one for the library. I also have built some relationships with students as I work with the Academic Challenge team and started a new book club, The Green Title Wave.
What is your favorite part about your job? I have always liked teaching and the library so being a school librarian is the best of both worlds! I get meet the staff and students and teach them both in class & personal environments. I also get to share my love of reading with purchasing new books and hosting fun programs and book club discussions! The best feeling is when students come back asking for another suggestion since they loved the last one!
Where is the most interesting place you have visited? A few years ago, I took a girls trip to visit my aunt out West to see the natural beauty of the National Parks. My highlight was visiting Yellowstone during the summer of the historic flooding & experiencing a double rainbow over Old Faithful.
What is one fun fact about yourself? In June 2007, I was in the audience for The Price is Right. Although I did not get "called down" to contestant's row, I got to be present for Bob Barker's 2nd to last show. I hope to attend a taping with Drew Carey soon!
Who or what inspired you to be in your position? My family & I have always been avid readers so the library was always a place I was excited to go to find the next book or to interact with the great librarians. My teachers helped to develop my love of English & literacy & I fondly remember being able to cash in my "tickets" to be teacher for a day in Junior High.
Which books/authors or songs/artists have influenced you the most? One thing you will learn very quickly about me is that I love Boy Bands! As I "patiently" await the *NSYNC reunion tour, I also enjoy a mix of pop & country, recently seeing Avril Lavigne, Sugarland, & Little Big Town in concert and looking forward to Rascal Flatts in March. Growing up, I enjoyed reading all types of books with some favorites being Little Women & the Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys mysteries. Now as a high school librarian, I love that I get to read all kinds of YA mysteries, sci-fi, fantasy, and even a few classics like To Kill a Mockingbird mixed in but my favorite author has got to be Nicholas Sparks.
