A graduate of the University of Mount Union, where he majored in history and education, Mr. Joey Keleman has taught at HN for three years. His courses include nutrition, first aid, and weightlifting. He also serves as HN’s assistant director of admissions and varsity football and baseball coach.
Before joining the HN faculty, Mr. Keleman taught for one year at Alliance High School.
He says that he is passionate about history because “it is what makes us who we are today. History is something that can repeat itself unless we learn from it, especially the mistakes.” He also loves health and fitness because “it coincides with my coaching profession and love for competitive greatness.”
Mr. Keleman, of course, strives for greatness in himself and in his students. Care for his students and the desire to help each and every one of them have the best future possible motivated him to become a teacher.
On a daily basis, Mr. Keleman is reminded that the choice he made was the right one because it gives him the chance to interact with the amazing people in the HN community. “They make me happy to drive to work each day,” he says.
His favorite lesson to teach is CPR because “it creates an awesome environment and really gets the students involved and interacting with one another.”
In all of his lessons, Mr. Keleman utilizes technology, including the ActivPanel, cell phones, and Chromebooks.
When he’s not at school, Mr. Keleman spends time fishing, playing competitive slow-pitch softball, and boating.
In school and in life, he urges his students to “get better every day! Don't settle for average, and do not be complacent with where you are in life; always desire to achieve more.”
