"There are no erasers, so once you start, you just have to find a way to make it work."
This lesson is one that HN students have learned and will continue to learn throughout their time at Holy Name and throughout their lives. It is a particularly important reminder for our freshmen who are starting a new journey that will include both successes and mistakes. In the moments following those mistakes, they might wish for an eraser but will instead have to "find a way to make it work."
Mrs. Ryan's art students put that lesson into practice during their first week on campus for the 2021-2022 school year by decorating the sidewalks around the school with inspirational messages for their fellow Namers.
Armed with chalk and a blank sidewalk canvas, some students were hesitant to start and "mess up."
Some students started a design only to realize they would not finish before the end of class.
But ALL students learned that simply starting to create their own masterpiece was the most important step.
All students learned that they could find a way to "make it work" even when their efforts didn't quite turn out as planned.
And all students learned that their classmates and teachers--who helped to finish unfinished designs--would always have their backs.
At HN, we are always learning from our successes and our failures--in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, and out in the world. We learn many of these lessons from books, but we learn some of the most important lessons from each other.
If you are checking out high schools for your child, our Admissions Office would love to learn more about YOU and your family.
Our students, faculty, and staff need your child and the lessons only he or she can teach, and we cannot wait to share the knowledge and wisdom we have gathered throughout our 107-year tradition of Catholic education.
