Wednesday began with the most important part of the whole Homecoming celebration: Mass. Fr. Andy Turner, a professor at Borromeo Seminary, emphasized the power of prayer in his homily. He began by inviting students, faculty, and staff to put their hands on the shoulders of the people beside them. He then led everyone in praying for their HN family members.
As Fr. Andy explained, "Prayer does something that nothing else can do. Prayer unites us with God and with one another. It unites us with God's will and invites God's will to be done in our lives and in the lives of those around us."
During this homecoming week, Fr. Andy reminded the HN community that there is no greater sign of unity—not school colors or a name on a jacket—than to pray with and for each other.
In addition, theology classes showed pride in their HN home by participating in a campus cleanup event.
On Thursday, students gathered on Cicerchi Field to celebrate the Homecoming Court. Everyone was excited to learn that Manny Casiano was the Homecoming King and Hannah Caraballo was the Queen!
At the Varsity Football Game that evening, the Namers defeated Normandy. As is the tradition at the Homecoming Game, the Class of 1967 presented Connor Preisel '22 with the Brian Neary '67 Award for Best Lineman.
Finally, on Friday, students enjoyed dancing the night away at the 'Gatsby Gala!' DJ by night, theology teacher by day Mr. Mike Palcisko did a great job with the music, and many students said it was the best Homecoming they have ever attended!
Thank you to all who made the Homecoming festivities possible. As Mrs. Carter said at Mass on Wednesday, the first two letters and last two letters in Holy Name make up the word 'HOME,' and that is what it should always be for our students, now and forever.
