Since 1914, Holy Name has been building a faith community that not only ignites the fire of God’s love within our students, but also brings that same Light to the world. Built on the foundation of Eucharist, we are a ministry true to the Mission of the Church: We gather around the table of the Lord, we invoke the Name of His Mother, Mary, and we rely on the intercession of the Saints. We deal with issues of Faith and the pressures and concerns that surround the lives of our students, our community, and our society.

All-School Mass

Once a month, the entire school community gathers to celebrate the Eucharist as one family. Campus Ministry members play an active role in the Mass, serving as acolytes, readers, gift bearers, and Eucharistic Ministers.

Bowling with the Disabled

All students, regardless of class level, are invited to bowl with and provide encouragement to developmentally disabled adults on Thursdays after school at Red Circle Lanes (6056 State Rd, Cleveland, OH 44134) from 3 to 4:45 p.m. To sign-up, students just have to write their names on the sheet taped to the Chapel Door. The Cenacle of Mary

On most Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. during the school year, The Cenacle of Mary prays the Divine Mercy Novena, under the patronage of Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Bernadette. The Cenacle of Mary is open to all students and is encouraged among those students who have previously worked on a team ministry and conducted a retreat. The Cenacle includes our graduates as well, which makes for the perfect blend of young people in college who come “home” to HN to pray the Divine Mercy, in front of the Blessed Sacrament, and share their own faith experiences with our students. It is one of our finest, faith building ministries.

Chapel Monthly Mass and Eucharistic Adoration

On the first Wednesday of each month during the academic year, Holy Name offers a Chapel Mass at 7:30 a.m. All students are invited to attend the Chapel Mass. Along with the Chapel Mass, Eucharistic Adoration takes place in the Chapel on the first Wednesday of every month as well. Theology classes regularly visit the Chapel on these Wednesdays (along with many other times during the school year) to spend time talking to the Lord. Students are encouraged to stop in the Chapel during their lunch periods all year long, but especially on days when Eucharistic Adoration takes place.

Faith Formation Trips

Along with the many retreats and service opportunities at Holy Name, students also have the opportunity to go on field trips that help them explore, grow and understand their faith on a deeper level. Annually, students go to Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine where they spend time with Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity. They also go to the Rally for Life at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Cleveland, where they attend Mass with other high school students from across the Diocese of Cleveland.

Pro-Life Club and Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice (CSPJ)

Throughout the year, both of these groups sponsor and attend various activities that encourage all students to respect, protect and help all human beings, from conception to death. This includes attending Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist twice a year, and participating in the Pro-Life Marches that coincide with these services.

Reconciliation

Reconciliation is offered a number of times throughout the year. We are fortunate to have several priests from area parishes who come to Holy Name for this service. Reconciliation times will be announced ahead of time to students.

Retreats

Every student at Holy Name has the opportunity to attend at least one retreat, if not more than that, throughout the school year. Every class has a retreat (freshmen and sophomores at Holy Name, juniors and seniors at St. Colette Parish in Brunswick), and then other retreats, such as Caritas, Kairos, and Little David’s, are offered for upperclassmen.

Service Opportunities

Holy Name students partake in several service opportunities, from Bowling with the Disabled (see above for more information) and Arts for All, to the Holy Name Elementary Christmas Celebration and Food/Clothing Drives. Announcements for these service opportunities will be announced to students as they are available. Families are also encouraged to visit the Holy Name Student Service Program Page to learn more about the school’s service requirements, and other service opportunities that can be done in the community.

St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society

In this commissioned role, St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearers travel to funerals across Northeast Ohio. This service as pallbearers provides comfort and compassion to those who have lost loved ones, helping to ensure the deceased are treated with dignity and respect during their final celebrations of life.
