All families in the Diocese of Cleveland, most especially Holy Name’s current and prospective parents, are invited to a presentation about the proposed expansion of the current state scholarship program. This presentation will be given by Ohio State Senator Sandra O’Brien on Thursday, February 9 in Holy Name’s Main Gymnasium. The presentation, titled “An EdChoice Scholarship for EVERY Child” will begin at 6:30 PM and will feature a Q&A session at the end.
As you likely know, Ohio currently offers several state scholarship programs that many Holy Name students apply for and are ultimately awarded to use toward their annual tuition balances. The state scholarships that Holy Name accepts include the Cleveland Scholarship; the EdChoice Traditional (Failing District-Based) Scholarship; and the EdChoice Expansion (Income-Based) Scholarship.
During next Thursday night’s meeting, Senator O’Brien will discuss the proposed Ohio bill to expand EdChoice eligibility to all K-12 students (including those already enrolled in Catholic schools), regardless of income or location. The bill has been introduced to the Ohio Senate, and is now in the Senate Education Committee.
Although this bill has not yet been passed into law, this meeting intends to let parents know about the possibilities, and share how all of us can advocate/lobby for state scholarship expansion. Please know these meetings are being conducted by Senator O'Brien to educate Ohioans. The Catholic Church does not endorse candidates nor engage in partisan activities. It does educate and advocate for issues.
Attached is a flyer with the February 9 presentation details given. If you do plan to attend, please RSVP by Monday, February 7 to https://docs.google.com/forms/
