A 1985 graduate of HN and 30-year veteran teacher, Mr. Ed McDonnell earned his Bachelor of Science in Education at Bowling Green State University. He taught for two years at Regina High School before coming to HN, where he currently teaches Chemistry and Honors Chemistry. Mr. McDonnell is also the moderator of Fishing Club, Medical Careers Club, and Film Club.
He credits his parents with inspiring him to become a teacher.
Asked to describe his favorite part of teaching at HN, Mr. McDonnell says, “What is not to love about HN?” He also notes that he is always having new memorable experiences, so his favorite memory changes daily. His favorite lessons, though, include teaching his students about the bright line emission spectrums of metals and the freezing point depression of ice.
In his free time, Mr. McDonnell enjoys fishing and otherwise being outdoors.
He encourages his students to “make the most of your time here at HN. It will be over before you know it. Don’t regret not being involved. Do not graduate and say, ‘I could have done more.’”
