New to the HN family this year, Mr. James Litteral teaches Marching Band, Jazz Band, Choir, History of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Music Theory, and Symphonic Band. He also leads the Marching and Pep Bands.
Mr. Litteral earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music from Cleveland State University, and he is currently working on his Masters of Music Education with Boston University. Before joining the HN faculty this year, he taught at Benedictine High School for three years.
He credits his mom, Dr. Elizabeth “Lisa” Pierce Litteral; his high school band and choir teachers, Mr. Frank Cosenza and Mrs. Beth Singer; and his current colleague Mr. Frank Bianchi with inspiring him to become a teacher.
Mr. Litteral describes music as “the universal language, which allows us to communicate and express ourselves in ways that…”
His favorite part of teaching at HN is the opportunity to work with incredible colleagues and students, and he embraces the challenge of keeping content and activities new and meaningful for his students. Part of his efforts to keep his teaching current include incorporating technology, such as the ActivPanel and an online drill writing program for Marching Band.
In his free time, Mr. Litteral enjoys golfing, singing, and playing the trumpet professionally. He is also a proud cat dad and loves binge watching TV shows with his feline children.
Mr. Litteral urges his students to “follow your passion. Do the things that make you happy and that you love. Don’t be afraid to try things that expand your comfort zone.”
