Earlier this month, we shared that Emilie Bonsignore won Artist of the Year at The Plain Dealer/Cleveland.com High School Standout Awards. We also recognize Namers who were Finalists in three other award categories!
Top Coach of the Year: Lou Scicchitano. "Coach Lou" has led the Green Wave Bowling Team since the early 2000s and is now heading into a well-deserved retirement. He went out on a high note: HN won the 2023 Greater Cleveland Interscholastic Bowling League’s Boys Varsity Division, their first GCIBL title in 17 years. Additionally, Coach Lou led the team to the Great Lakes Conference title and was named the GLC’s Coach of the Year.
Top Male Athletic Team: 2022 Football Team. It was an incredible year on Queens Highway for football. They went 7-2, winning both the Great Lakes Conference East Division and the overall GLC title. In the postseason, they went on a historic school playoff run, beating rival Padua 56-21 in the Division III, Region 10 Final to make it to the state football final four for the first time since 1975. Ultimately, they won 11 games – the most in a single season by any Green Wave Football Team.
Against All Odds: Roberto Colón Jr. '23. Roberto graduated from HN last month, nearly two years after being diagnosed with brain cancer. He faced every day with courage and strength, and battled constant pain to be at school with his classmates. Roberto ended senior year on the Honor Roll, and utilized his photography talent to be a huge part of this year's yearbook staff.
